Omar Ibn Al-Khatab Mosque, as it is called, was inaugurated on March 23, 1983. Due to the large number of tourists and visitors, the Islamic mosque Omar Ibn Al-Khatab built a reception center for visitors. The aim is to encourage and support cultural and social events, thus demonstrating the hospitality of Islamic culture towards other nations on the planet. The site spent two years being built until it reached the structure it has today.

The structure of the built mosque is 600m², with spaces for parties, and the temple has a construction area of 400m². The location of the Mosque faces the Holy City of Mecca, the direction that faces the Muslim when praying.

The mosque is a religious temple that, despite being a tourist spot, has arabesques (a combination of geometric shapes often similar to the shapes of plants and animals). The art of the place draws everyone's attention, having an oval shape, and with towers on the sides in white tones.

It is worth highlighting Ramadan (name given to the ninth month of the Islamic calendar), where, throughout the month, Muslims around the world fast from sunrise to sunset. Throughout the entire fast, food and drink must not be consumed and the thought must be kept pure. Believers and followers of the religion believe that the practice teaches patience, modesty and spirituality.

Clothes

Before the visit, everyone must remove their shoes. In addition, some requirements are made so that respect for traditions is maintained, such as the use of long pants or skirts for women and the veil that covers the hair and part of the shoulder. For men, it is recommended to wear pants or shorts below the knee.

Important: the clothes to cover the body are provided by the Mosque and, at the end of the visit, a sample of the Koran is also given – the sacred book of this religion.

Prayers at the site take place five times a day, so visitors are not allowed during prayer times. As in the Catholic religion, in which the churches have a bell, the mosque has a call, which is made with the human voice itself. The religion, guided by the Koran, has customs that are different from those Brazilians are used to, such as the fact that men and women pray in separate spaces.
