The Discovery of the Devil's Throat in 1542

During a tribe celebration, a young warrior named Tarobá met Naipi and fell in love with the chief's daughter. The two, blinded by love, fled in a canoe across the waters of the river.
Upon realizing this, Mboi became furious and opened a huge crack in the river that emerged from the depths of the earth, which would have given rise to the waterfalls.
Tarobá and Naipi, surrounded by the furious waters, collapsed into this abyss for all eternity.
According to legend, Naipi would have been transformed into the central rock of the Falls. And Tarobá, in a palm tree that is at the tip of an abyss right in the river gorge.
The Devil's Throat takes this name, as it would be the exact place where the god Mboi, moved by revenge, opened the crater, which remains there until today in possession of his fangs.
Facts about Iguazu Falls
In addition to the impressive legend of ancient peoples, the Iguaçu Falls, with a Brazilian vision in Foz, are a set of waterfalls that are formed by the narrowing of the Iguaçu River.
The name “Iguaçu” derives from the Tupi-Guarani language and means “big water”. More than apt name, isn't it?
From a scientific point of view, the formation of this natural wonder of the world took place with the movement and breakage of tectonic plates approximately, about 130 million years ago.
With the rupture of the plates, a gigantic amount of lava was emerged by the volcanoes to the surface. The result of this volcanism covers a surface of 1,200,000 km², reaching a thickness of 1,500 meters.
