Bird Park attractions

Located near the entrance to the Iguaçu National Park (where are the famous Iguazu Falls), this shrine has over a thousand birds of 150 different species. Parque das Aves is maintained in 16.5 hectares of Atlantic Forest, which provides the ideal habitat for its animals.

One of the most famous species of the place is the macaw, and there is the largest nursery of the species in South America.

Backstage Experience

Forest Experience

Celebration with Guarani indigenous people

A unique experience and immersion in the local indigenous culture, the Forest Experience provides a meeting between visitors and members of the Mbya-Guarani tribe, inhabitants of the Jacy Porã village in Puerto Iguazú – next to the Parque das Aves forest, where the meeting takes place.

As in the village, the indigenous people carry out a celebration with dancing, food and a tobacco ceremony to welcome visitors. The meeting takes place around the campfire and can vary according to what the tribe members and the group are feeling. It is about a participatory experience.

Afterwards, a traditional dinner is shared among all.

O money collected from tickets is returned to indigenous people as a form of payment to each member. Another part is deposited in the Guarani Fund, which is used to develop improvements for the tribe, such as the construction of clean water sources.      

The Forest Experience is held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:30 pm. The meeting takes approximately 2h30. O cost of ticket is R$250.00 and it is necessary to book in advance.

Curiosity: Brief history of Parque das Aves

Inaugurated on October 7, 1994, Parque das Aves was designed and built by the couple Anna and Dennis Croukamp. After getting a gray parrot chick, Dennis discovered his passion for birds and came to Brazil from Namibia in order to put your project into practice.

Brazilian zoos made donations and loans of the first birds, and IBAMA (Brazilian Institute for the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources) also sent some animals that had been confiscated by their teams.

At the moment, Parque das Aves is the largest of its kind in Latin America — and, thanks to the dedication of its team, which is always developing projects for the conservation and breeding of some species, it does not stop growing. It is worth mentioning that about 50% of local birds were rescued from illegal trafficking or mistreatment.

Parque das Aves: Prices and Opening Hours

The Bird Park is open every day from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, and admission tickets cost R$ 45.00 for tourists — being the half-entry value of R$22. Residents of Foz and municipalities bordering the Iguaçu National Park pay R$10. Children up to 8 years old do not pay admission. During the visit, the recommendation is that you use comfortable clothes and hiking shoes, in addition to sunscreen and insect repellent. As it is a conservation sanctuary, it is forbidden to touch or feed the animals, even in the nurseries where entry is allowed (with the exception of the Backstage Experience tour).

A good tip is to take advantage of the proximity and schedule the tour to Parque das Aves on the same day as the visit to the Iguazu Falls.

How to get to Parque das Aves

to go from Del Rey Quality Hotel to Parque das Aves, you can go by car, taxi, transport app, receptive or bus. Check the best option:

  • Car: take Avenida das Cataratas and follow it to the end. There is free parking in front of Parque das Aves and private parking in the surroundings (about R$20 per day). It is also possible to leave the car in the Iguaçu Falls parking lot, which is very close, if you are visiting on the same day.
  • Taxi or Transport App: Leaving the city centre, the taxi ride is around R$ 60.00. Through the app, it costs R$ 30.00 on average.
  • Receptive: Get in touch with Triple Tour agency (attached to the Del Rey Quality Hotel) to check times and prices.
  • Bus: Good option for those who want to save money. The ticket costs around R$ 3.85. Take line 120 (Parque Nacional), which runs every 20 minutes.
