The city of Foz do Iguacu has always been a highlight in tourism: either because of its natural wonders such as the waterfalls of Iguaçu or for its large hotel hub, one of the largest in the country.

With the onset of the pandemic in Brazil, Foz do Iguaçu was one of the first cities to suffer the impact, as the tourism sector was one of the hardest hit and many people had to cancel or postpone their trips to Terra das Cataratas.

But what few people know is that Foz is one of the safest tourist destinations for post-pandemic tourism. Want to know how the city is preparing for this comeback? Then keep reading this post!

Social isolation measures

Foz do Iguaçu was one of the first cities to join the lockdown (confinement) right at the beginning of the pandemic in the country. The borders with Argentina and Paraguay were closed on March 20 and Foz also suspended airport activities and created sanitary barriers to control vehicles entering the city.

In addition, it was one of the first cities in Brazil to make the use of masks mandatory and has two laboratories prepared to carry out massive testing of tourists and residents who have any symptoms. Altogether there are 34,000 tests.

With the control of isolation measures, Foz do Iguaçu contained the cases of contamination and maintained one of the lowest numbers of cases in the state of Paraná.

Health reference

Foz do Iguaçu was one of the first Brazilian cities to create a 24-hour on-call service for cases of coronavirus, with assistance via WhatsApp. The Ministro Costa Cavalcanti Hospital is a reference in the care of cases of COVID-19, as it has a wing and an intensive care unit dedicated to the treatment of infectious diseases.

The city, in addition to keeping the contagion number low, helps other cities in the region such as Cascavel, which already has hospitals operating at maximum capacity and ends up transferring patients to be treated in Foz do Iguaçu.

The basic health units in the city also receive help from Unila (Federal University of Latin American Integration) which makes the production of glycerin alcohol that is distributed to the units.

With reductions and restrictions on international travel, people will choose to travel locally, going to nearby places and preferring to travel by car, as it is more practical and safer.

nature travel

In addition to being national, the destinations most valued by travelers in post-pandemic tourism will be places with plenty of nature and open air. Foz do Iguaçu is the perfect place for these travelers, as it has many natural wonders and open spaces.

After confinement, everyone will miss being closer to nature, won't they? In addition to helping to avoid agglomerations and reduce the risk of contagion.
