Foz: one of the destinations in the world to live the applause experience at sunset

A round of applause for the sunset! That's right. Foz do Iguaçu: city famous for the Falls, which is among the five most beautiful destinations in the world, also offers that hallmark experience shared by travelers at sunset: applause. And to experience this, you have the right address! One of them is the Landmark of the 3 Borders. There, the natural show is preceded by a cultural show, which tells a lot about the history of Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay. Simply unforgettable.

And I'm going to tell you how this experience at Marco Square was for me. By the way, in this article, I decided to talk about this one, in particular, but also about several other cool spots to enjoy the sunset in Foz.

I took the hint and included some in other places in Brazil and around the world. After all, maybe you like it like I do and decide to include the experience in the itineraries of your next trips.

These moments, even more with applause, are valued by other people, like me, or even more travelers than me, in different parts of the world.

Despite being something even “ordinary”, with each new place and new look, everything changes and you may be surprised.

It is, for me, something great and a reason to be grateful. Like the sea and beach experience on New Year's Eve, but with the advantage that it can happen at any time of the year, in any landscape setting, such as the beautiful mountains and lake of Foz.

I'm a journalist and I've always enjoyed taking pictures and being inspired to write. I did this watching the moon and sunset early in the morning. Despite this, I admit that I discovered this modality, of applauding the sun together with other people, a few years ago, in Vietnam, during a backpacking trip through Asia.

I was surprised and enchanted and now, this has happened again, on my trip to Foz.

I confess that maybe I choose the sunset, because I'm not much of an early riser in time to see the sunrise. For sure, both are worth it and the applause!

It is quite exciting when you are, in the same place and time, with dozens or hundreds of unknown people, in search of the same goal. And the best: without combining anything beforehand. Each one from a corner of the world, their desires and stories in particular.

Every time I cry and get emotional, because I think about what I'm feeling and I'm grateful. The experience of the sunset has the power to make me elevate my thoughts, in a shared emotion, but never similar. It's always unique.

Despite reinforcing the tip of this place, where the sunset deserves applause and receives many royal palms practically every late afternoon…

…it is worth remembering that Foz do Iguaçu is the scene of many other beautiful scenarios for the sunset experience.

It may seem silly and even commonplace, since, theoretically, the sun rises (and sets) for everyone, daily. But for us travelers, the king star is more than important, because it illuminates each new place explored and presents us with unforgettable moments.

As I said, of course the sunrise is also beautiful, but waking up at 5 am, especially during the holidays, may not be in most people's plans. Meanwhile, sunset often influences the day's schedule and even the itinerary of a trip.

And, speaking of the itinerary, it is also worth including the sunset on Lake Itaipu, in Foz do Iguaçu. And more: include the kattamaram boat ride on the waters of Itaipu lake in the late afternoon to see the sunset. Experience that can prove to be somewhat unforgettable, even for the most travellers.

Pay attention to these valuable tips in Foz!

That's because, of course that the sunset at the Iguaçu Falls could not be left out of the list. Appreciated in the Triple Border and disputed by tourists from several countries, saying goodbye to the sun in one of the largest waterfalls in the world is an incomparable experience.

Experience at Marco da Triplice Fronteira surprises

sunset - triple border

In this desire to admire the moon and the sunset wherever I go, I immediately thought of the triple border, or as they call it, Marco das Três Fronteiras. But, I confess that, when I read about this tourist spot, I imagined that it would be somewhat important, as it is a place full of history, but – perhaps – without much tourist charm.

One of those places where we have to go, but walk a long way to take a picture and then look for something better to do. He knows? But, I was surprised to come across a different and beautiful place.

There's history there, with beautiful statues of Indians made in natural size, a lot of culture told through presentations and a very different cuisine. With bars and restaurants, as well as walls and stones used for contemplating nature.

And everything is there, together, in a large open-air square, “Praça do Marco”, as in one of the many beautiful cities in the south of the country, full of riches.

Attractions tell the story of the three countries

Landmark of the three borders

Go to enjoy the end of the afternoon, being able to extend it into the night, because you can enjoy it for hours, with friends, your love or family. It is a tour for all ages. I guarantee.

In addition to having, there, one of the most beautiful tributes we can make to life, which for me is to applaud the sunset and be grateful for another day! In fact, there are beautiful, exciting and special presentations there before and after sunset. It is very worthwhile to program yourself to watch and participate in these moments.

The traditional cultural presentations at Marco das 3 Fronteiras were revamped and are now held before and after sunset. The shows tell the story of the place and its characters, in the middle of that nature and warm climate. They usually happen around 6:30 pm. The activities are all staged outdoors.

A little more about the history of the triple border landmark

The “stone landmark” really gathers a journey through at least 400 years of history. It is the oldest tourist attraction in the city of Foz do Iguaçu, with the stone obelisk that marks the borders being built in 1903. From there you can also see the Argentine landmark, on the other side of the river, made on the same date. The Paraguayan landmark, on the right bank of the Paraná River, was only built in 1961.

The three, equally painted in national colors, form a triangle that sets the territorial boundary and sovereignty of the three countries.

At the borders, two squares of the tourist complex meet and one of them is Praça das Missões. In it, there is a replica of the facade of a Jesuit mission. At night, the lights come on and highlight the structure inspired by the Jesuit reductions.

Now, take the opportunity to check out some other destinations in Brazil and around the world where the sun sets accompanied by palms:

  • Arpoador, on Ipanema Beach, in Rio de Janeiro

Arpoador Stone, for many years, it has also been the stage for a natural show with applause. Over there, the moment the sun disappears over the horizon is usually accompanied by a round of applause, something that can be done alone or with others.

Many elect the place as one of the altars of the city of Rio, elevating it to the concept of “altar place”. The sun sets behind Morro Dois Irmãos (or over the sea, depending on the season). In this context, the habit of applauding the sunset can be seen as a gesture of prayer and sociability.

  • Campos do Jordao, in Sao Paulo

In the cold of some times of the year, like in July, for example, saying goodbye to the sun may not be an easy experience. But, given the view offered by the Felicia Leirner Museum, it pays off. Sometimes, sunset is accompanied by a ceremony, with dances, juggling and poetry.

  • Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia

At more than 3,500 meters high, the desert offers two different landscapes, depending on the time of year you visit it. During the rains from December to March, there is a chance of finding it flooded, forming a mirror in the sky, reproducing an impressive double sunset.

  • istanbul in Türkiye

The cultural capital of Turkey is the city of mosques, with many places to see the sunset in the background, with striking visuals, such as the Galata Bridge, which is always crowded with people, photographing or fishing, with many seagulls to complete the scenario.

  • Chapada Diamantina, in Bahia

The Pai Inácio hill offers the most beautiful panoramic view of Chapada Diamantina, especially at sunset. But, the difficult climb is worth it.
