The History Before the Hotel
Former resident of Portugal, Jaime Antonio da Costa Mendes (in memory) arrived in Brazil in December 1950. During his childhood, he worked with his father at the Hotel Fátima, in the city of Maringá, Paraná.
During this period in which he worked with his father, Jaime Mendes learned many functions in the hotel business and came to Foz do Iguaçu in 1968, ending up working as a receptionist and tour guide in the city.
In 1973, Jaime Mendes met his future wife. Maria Francisca Machado Mendes came to the city on a faculty excursion from the State University of Goiás and ended up staying staying at the same hotel where he worked.
After the tour ended, both exchanged letters. for six months before getting married. Upon moving to Foz do Iguaçu, Maria Mendes began to work in the hospitality industry with her husband and only in 1976 both entered a building on Avenida Brasil to start the first hotel.
A few years later, Mr. Jaime had the opportunity to work at the Hotel das Cataratas, taking advantage of this path to improve your knowledge in hospitality. Eventually, he and his wife decided it was time to build their own business, opening the Hotel Del Rey Quality Hotel in 1985.
The Del Rey Quality Hotel Foundation
O Del Rey Quality Hotel – formerly known as Hotel Del Rey Foz – was founded by Mr. Jaime Antônio da Costa Mendes in 1985, when quotas in Paraguay were released and people traveled a lot to Foz to shop across the border.
The name 'Del Rey' was chosen because the hotel was inspired by royal treatment and from the outset had the aim of treating guests as if they were 'Kings' and 'Queens'.
At first, after the land where the Del Rey Quality Hotel having been purchased, only 22 apartments were built. But, with the success of the undertaking, in 1989 the first expansion in the hotel – thanks to the purchase of the land next door – where another 32 apartments were built, pool and terrace bar.
In 1992, the Del Rey in Foz underwent yet another renovation to renovate the facilities, adding a playroom, the construction of the chapel and more new apartments.

The Hotel Currently
Currently, the management of Del Rey Quality Hotel is under the command of Jaime, son of the founding couple, who continues his father's legacy with a lot of effort and dedication.
Today the Del Rey Quality Hotel it has 91 apartments structured to receive families, friends, people who are traveling alone or on business.
Over the years, we have received many awards, such as:
- O 6th best hotel in Brazil for families by tripadvisor
- 3 star certificate from the Ministry of Tourism
- One of the 25 Best Hotels in Latin America for Family by tripadvisor
- Paraná Tourism Quality Award (2018-2019) awarded by SEBRAE
It is worth remembering that the hotel is in a privileged location in the center of Foz do Iguaçu, close to the Urban Transport Terminal (TTU). In addition to being close to a market, bakery, pharmacies and many stores.
We provide a breakfast service – served from 3 am – with more than 85 items ranging from bread and cakes to pies typical of the triple border.
For leisure, we have a swimming pool and bar on the terrace, and a games room with pool table, foosball and video games for those who bring the family and small children.
In addition, the Del Rey Quality Hotel also cares about the environment and, therefore, we use biodegradable products, we work with recycling - separating more than 200 kilos of material per week -, we have renewable energy – such as solar panels – and we avoid using plastic packaging, so the apartment bathrooms are equipped with shampoo and conditioner dispensers.
