Weekend in Foz? Enjoy the Itaipu Biological Refuge as a tour option

Itaipu Refuge as a tour option

Regardless of what your revelry is in this atypical year of 2021, your Carnival already has a certain place: Terra das Cataratas. In addition to the famous Iguaçu Falls, Parque das Aves and other incredible tours, Del Rey Quality now includes the Itaipu Biological Refuge as a tour option for your weekend.

Located next to Itaipu Binacional, with access from the Visitor Reception Center, the Bela Vista Biological Refuge (RBV) will operate differently: it will open on Monday (15), the day of the week when it is normally closed to visitors.

Understand what the Refuge is

Created 36 years ago, on June 27, 1984, the Refuge is home to several fauna and flora conservation and environmental education projects. It has a group of animals typical of the regional biome (the Atlantic Forest), such as the jaguar, harpy eagle, bororó deer, tapir and marsh deer, which delight adults and children alike.

Some of these animals were rescued from traffic or accidents. Others are part of important reproduction projects for endangered species, such as the harpy eagle. Traveling along the RBV trails, tourists participate in an experience that combines entertainment, learning and contact with nature.

As it is an option for an outdoor tour and that complies with the protocols for dealing with the pandemic (such as alcohol gel available throughout the journey, mandatory use of a mask and social distancing, including a limitation on the number of spaces), it is an option that has been highly sought after.

Of Itaipu's attractions, RBV is the one that recorded the smallest drop in public this past January, compared to the same period in 2020, when tourism had not yet been impacted by the covid-19 pandemic. The drop in visitation was just 5%. In January 2021, almost 3,500 people visited the RBV, of which 21% are residents of Foz do Iguaçu and region.
