Tourism at Itaipu binacional

About the attraction

The Itaipu Binacional Hydroelectric Power Plant is the world leader in the production of clean and renewable energy and its grandeur made it one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World, in addition to being the symbol of integration between Brazil and Paraguay.

Undoubtedly, Itaipu is one of the great achievements of human engineering, in addition to supplying around 10.8% of the energy consumed in Brazil and 88.5% of Paraguayan consumption.

The dam is almost 08 km long and 196 meters high, which is equivalent to a 65-story building. There are 20 generating units (turbines) capable of generating 14,000 megawatts.

In order to supply the units with the necessary water flow for this production, the Itaipu reservoir was formed, which occupies an area of 1350 km2, with 29 billion m3 of water accumulated. Nature and engineering united to produce energy.

But Itaipu not only generates electricity, but is also an essential tourist attraction on the visitor's list of tours in Foz do Iguaçu.

To get to know this marvel of modern engineering, Itaipu created different types of tourist tours, starting with the Itaipu/CRV Visitor Center. The place has a snack bar, restaurant, restrooms, souvenir shop and the box office for the purchase of tickets.
